Strengthening Our Community, One Book at a Time

We are proud to be located in Newton Heath and we are passionate about doing our part to raise the next generation to be kind, respectful members of the community. As part of our commitment to this, we often get involved in initiatives run by Greater Manchester’s Violence Reduction Unit. Recently, they funded a project which enabled us to broaden the texts through which we teach writing. The texts are beautiful, meaningful reads which help our children to learn about different social constructs and values such as empathy, tolerance and inclusivity. The books form part of our writing spine and are all titles selected from our writing programme- The Literacy Tree- which we chose due to the exceptional book choices which enthuse and inspire our pupils, and for the rich opportunities to write for a range of purposes which the programme provides.

Take a look at the video below where our pupils share what they have been writing and what they have learnt from the texts!
