Reception

Happy New year to you all! This half term Reception will be learning about Space. We will be looking at two fictional stories ‘Whatever Next and Toys in Space’. The children have created their own questions of things they would like to find out so in the coming weeks we will be using different sources available in school to search information about space to find the answers to our questions. This will include looking closely at similarities and differences between earth and the other planets in the solar system.

In maths we will continue to consolidate our existing number knowledge also beginning to count in 2s and 5s. Fitting in with our space topic we are able to cover areas of shape, space and measure including: time, distance, positional language, weight and capacity.

Children are still having daily phonics lessons, learning new sounds each day in order to enhance their reading and writing skills. When reading their school book at home, they may segment and blend their words as they do in phonics, please listen carefully and support their early reading.

It is very important that your child is able to write their name independently. Can you please support your child with this at home and practise for a short time each day until your child has mastered it. This will make their transition into Year One much easier.

Thank you for your continued support.
